Wet/Dry Risers
Dry risers (sometimes referred to as fire mains) are installed in buildings over 18m high to assist the fire services pump water into accessible points (landing valves) inside the building. A building over 60m in height will require a wet riser, often with pumps and a water storage tank situated on the roof. One rising main is required for every 900m2 of floor area. We can design and install either system, depending on the situation.
Dry risers can be prone to neglect and even vandalism, so it is important to have them regularly maintained and inspected. With the potential for penalties should they fail to function in the event of a fire, the dry risers should be visually inspected and serviced every 6 months and hydraulically pressure tested annually in accordance with BS 9990. We carry out these tests following all our installations or remedial works, and issue our customers with the appropriate commissioning / test certificate.
